Benedikts Kalnačs, Head of Literature Department, Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art, University of Latvia, Riga, and Professor of Comparative Literature, University of Liepāja (Latvia); Dr. philol. Riga 1993; Habilitation Riga 1999; Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences; Executive Committee Member, European Society of Comparative Literature. Principal research areas: 19th and 20th century Latvian literature; Latvian and European drama; comparative literature; postcolonial studies.
