Ph.D. Austra Avotiņa is a researcher in art history, associate professor at University of Latvia Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art, guest lecturer of the Art Academy of Latvia. Research interests include art and cultural education, art theory, history of culture and art of books. A. Avotina is an author of monographs, study books and numerous articles and conference papers about various aspects of art, education and history of culture (96 units) and editor of journal for print graphics (Iespiedgrafika, since 1998-).
She is a member of editorial board of scientific journal for Humanities and Arts Scriptus Manet (2015-2016). Participated in many international projects as an expert and group leader: e.g. ESFP for teacher continuing education program – Development of visual art teachers professional and pedagogical competence (2012–2014); an expert in the project School2030 in group for subjects Culture and Art (since 2016-); she is an author of international project idea which is the part of Riga as Cultural capital 2014 – World in picture book – First Picture Book Quadrennial in Riga (2014). A. Avotina is a member of International Society for Education through Art (InSEA), member of European Network for Visual Literacy (ENViL) and represented interests of University of Latvia in European Network of Observatories in the Field of Arts and Cultural Education linked to UNESCO (ENO).
