Since the restoration of independence of Latvia, it is already the 3rd World Congress of Latvian Lawyers (the first – in 1990, the second – in 1992). The aim of this Congress is to bring together lawyers of Latvian origin from all over the world to renew their professional networks and to establish new, as well as to discuss current legislative problems, and to decide on which solution would be most effective in the current socio-political environment.
The work of the Congress is organised in four thematic sections. The aim of the National law section is to discuss constitutional values in the context of globalisation, to seek ways to overcome new international challenges and to use new opportunities ensured by the integration into the international system. In the Commercial law section, it is planned to discuss and propose solutions to strengthen commercial activity, including struggle against unfair practice in the processes of insolvency, raiderism, and struggle against negligence of members of the commercial associations’ board.
The Prevention of criminality section will analyse new tendencies of criminality and will discuss necessary changes in law and the work of law enforcement institutions.
The fourth section is dedicated to the profession of lawyer, education of young lawyers and development of law science in Latvia in an international context. The opinions and conclusions agreed upon during the Congress will be summarised and submitted to their relevant institutions in order to improve law policy or practice.
